7 Common Challenges All Leaders Face (and what to do about it)!

“A moment’s insight is sometimes worth a life’s experience.”  ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Leaders, regardless of where they are located in the world, are hungry for insight that will help them elevate their leadership and that of their teams.  It is noteworthy that the challenges leaders face, are virtually the same, regardless of where in the world they are located.  Despite cultural differences, there are some common challenges all leaders face, and while varied, they tend to fall into some of the following categories:

  • Effective communications to ensure the message is heard
  • Intentionally managing actions, words and behaviors for a consistent image
  • Helping the team navigate through organizational change
  • Positively influencing situations when conflict arises
  • Strategic thinking and how to apply to business decision making
  • Providing consistent feedback and feed-forward, both affirming and corrective
  • Investing the time to coach and empower teams for further development

The above quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes represents how the Sage Alliance Leadership Academy impacts participants, worldwide.  This is a series of interactive virtual workshops to inspire leaders to become even stronger leaders by equipping them with the tools they need to continue to develop themselves, as well as to build the next level of leaders on their teams.  Leaders gain insight into ways they can fundamentally be better leaders; address their specific challenges and walk away with actionable tools they can immediately implement to support their success and the success of their teams.

In the most recent Sage Alliance Leadership Academy sessions held in Barcelona, Spain and in Ghent Belgium, leaders representing eight different countries were in attendance.  The Sage Alliance Leadership Academy is a comprehensive, fully customizable program done virtually or in-person that pinpoints the critical areas where leaders most often struggle.

Some of the countless take-aways of the Sage Alliance Leadership Academy include:

  1. Simplify the complex for concise and targeted communications that gains buy-in.
  2. Clarity around how to effectively communicate to those with different communication styles than your own.
  3. Identify and build awareness around blind spots and recognize unproductive stress behavior that can cause inconsistencies in leadership.
  4. Appreciation for how to intentionally manage your reputation and the perception others have of you to influence more effectively.
  5. Develop the skills to think strategically, leading to positive business outcomes.
  6. Transform into a change agent that influences others to adopt change.
  7. Specific techniques on how to help individuals and teams resolve conflict.
  8. Newly developed expertise in how to empower teams with improved problem solving, decision making and accountability, through feedback and coaching.

It is rewarding to see leaders learn and experience that aha moment when something resonates with them while having fun and connecting with colleagues they may never have connected with before.  This is where discovery and insight are most evident.

The insight works both ways.  The participants gain insight, as do I from working with leaders from around the globe.  And this insight is worth a lifetime of experiences for us all.
